4 Things You Should Know About Influencer Marketing

By: Lydia Adams

Influencer marketing is the new kid on the block, and due to the relative unknowns surrounding it, everyone hasn’t embraced it yet. If you’re ready to give this marketing strategy a try, here are four things you must know.

Before you become an expert in this marketing sphere in an effort to grow your business, get familiar with the following:

  • Your Target Audience: To reach your customers in the most effective way, you have to know who they are. What’s your target age group? What’s their income? Which social media platforms do they love? Once you have a firm grasp on the demographics, then you’ll know which influencers to target.
  • How to Choose the Right Influencer: If your target audience is aged 18-30, you wouldn’t select an influencer whose film heyday was in the 1970s. Likewise, if your audience spends more time on Instagram than any other social platform, look for an influencer with impressive numbers there instead of one who exclusively uses Facebook.
  • How to Reach Out: Just like you wouldn’t tell your life story to a stranger, don’t immediately assume a relationship with an influencer. Follow them, like their posts, and comment. Build a rapport with them before asking them to be part of your campaign. You also need to show why they should partner with you. What benefits do you offer? How can you make it a mutually satisfying partnership?
  • The Cost: In 2016, the average price for influencer marketing campaigns had a big range: from $25,000 to $50,000. For small businesses, this can look steep. However, up-and-comers will command less. Instead of someone with 1 million followers, who’ll charge hefty fees, look at that rising star with 10,000 followers.

With a recent study showing influencer marketing having 11-times greater ROI than traditional digital marketing, you can see the huge difference it can make.
